David Brown has lived in Jerusalem intermittently for eleven years, initially to compile and present Cameos of the Holy Land, a series of weekly programmes broadcast by Springbok Radio, then a commercial division of the South African Broadcasting Corporation, between 1981 and 1985. 

His sojourn in the Holy Land was, above all, a privileged religious experience.

At the same time, returning to Jerusalem in 2010 after an absence of 20 years, he found a changed and changing Holy Land.

Yet not everything had changed.

The Old walled City seemed, quietly, to resist change.

And boys, many of them from other countries, still celebrated their BarMitzvot at the Western Wall, part of the massive platform which once supported the Second Temple of Herod the Great.
